Description

Zopf is a type of Swiss, Austrian and German bread made from white flour, milk, eggs and yeast. We brush our zopf with egg before it goes in the oven, lending it its golden crust. It is baked in the form of a plait and traditionally eaten on Sunday mornings since bakeries used to be closed on Sundays and thanks to the butter in Zopf, this bread would taste just as fresh when bought the day before. The German and French names are derived from the shape of the bread, meaning "braid". Swiss Zopf differs from other braid-shaped breads such as Challah or Hefekranz by way of being unsweetened.

    Buttery, soft and airy Zopf

Published by Rolf on 16th Aug 2021

We are from Switzerland and stay 2 times a year in FL. It was not possible to find a good Zopf / egg bread in our area for a Sunday Brunch. Now my wife and I are very happy to find it. It tastes like in Switzerland, Thx Swiss Bakery / favorites.

Closest Zuepfe to the one my Dad used to bake

My dad was a Patissier and baked Zupfe at home every weekend. The Zuepfe from the Swiss Bakery comes very close!

I was very happy with this! As recommended I put the defrosted Zopf in the oven for about 8 minutes and it was delicious! Crispy crust and soft in the inside. Will definitely order again.
