In the Rhine valley in St. Gallen Blumenkäse is crafted using milk sourced exclusively from farms in the region practicing animal friendly husbandry – a prerequisite for high quality cheese.
Blumenkäse in German literally means “cheese made with flowers”, which appropriately describes the beautiful rind covered with dried yellow, blue, and red blossoms of marigolds, cornflowers, and roses. The rind also includes the fragrance of twelve different herbs, including winter savory, mint, chives and juniper berries. Matured for six months, Blumenkäse develops a mild, subtly tart aroma and becomes a beautiful addition to any cheese plate.

Despite of being Swiss, I wasn't too familiar with this cheese. So in other words, I took the plunge. Boy am I ever glad I did. The whole family loved this cheese. It is absolutely divine. If you close your eyes while taking a bite, especially with the herbs and flowers, it brings your mind to crisp, fresh Alp air - you can almost see the cows and the 'Senn'...Truly an incredibly good cheese.

Der Käse könnte etwas rassiger sein, aber mit etwas Pfeffer schmeckt er gut. Wir sind mit der ganzen Sendung zufrieden und werden wieder etwas bestellen. Wir warten noch bis die Basler Läckerli wieder da sind!
